Windows & Doors FAQ

Yes. Replacing windows and exterior doors requires a building permit in Pinellas County. As a licensed contractor, AmPol applies for the permit and schedules the final inspection for you.

Pinellas County lies in Florida’s wind-borne debris region, where replacement windows and glass doors generally need opening protection: impact-rated products or approved shutters. The Florida Building Code has a limited exception for one- and two-family homes: if the glazing you replace within 12 months is no more than 25% of the home’s total glazed openings, opening protection is not required, although the new units must still meet wind-pressure requirements. We will explain what applies to your home during the estimate.

The price depends on the size and style of each opening, the frame and glass you choose, how many windows and doors you replace, and what the installation requires. We measure your home and give you a free estimate for your exact project.

It depends on the products you choose, the manufacturer lead time and the size of your project. We give you a realistic timeline together with your estimate.

They can. Florida law requires home insurers to offer discounts or credits for wind mitigation features, including protected openings. A wind mitigation inspection documents your new windows and doors, so ask your insurance agent how they affect your premium.

Two state programs are worth checking. Homeowners with a homestead exemption and a home just value of $700,000 or less may get a refund of up to $500 in sales tax (Florida Department of Revenue form DR-26HH), and eligible homeowners can apply for a My Safe Florida Home grant. See Ways to Save above for details.
